Rumor is on Google is about to Release Android 5.0 Subject to Changes API Designation Scheme

There are again subtle indications that Android 5.0 "L" is just around the corner: Who was the last still believed that right after Android 4.4.3 was to be expected, no further update is already taught 4.4.4 thanks to a better been. On top of that, the major update now announces in the AOSP code, because Google has the API names changed from the current numbering in an alphabetical identifier - "L" as the API Level of the next version of Android.
Android 5.0

Lollipop, Liquorice, Lemonpie or even Lion to continue to keep Nestlé as a partner in a good mood can - so completely conclusive one is at the moment not yet know how the next Android version will be called with the number 5.0. The only certainty is the first letter, because since the first version of Android with candy name - namely Android 1.5 Cupcake (1.0 and 1.1 were "base") - Google has adhered strictly to the alphabetical system. The API designation scheme deviates somewhat from, and instead used a numerical system, which is now to be abolished apparently for the convenience of the developers. Instead, the API level always corresponds now to the first letter of each version of Android. In the source code was heralded as evidence for this assumption is that about the 64-bit API name for the Android-L-Release instead of 20 (as KitKat the API level 19 has) simply "L" is read.

However, it is directly in the entry the talk that this designation was only temporary - Google has set itself accordingly not yet know what the Android 5.0 release could move from the immediate vicinity again. After an ominous Tweet that Android 5.0 may already anteaserte, many Android users and developers alike tense wait to see if not yet already on Wednesday the next major update will come for Android. It may be, inter alia, an enhanced implementation of Google Now in the course of Project Hera and a heavily revised total surface under specification of Quantum Paper, which could draw the design on Android in a significantly new direction.
