I can not deny that the CyanogenMod remains my favorite ROM on my Nexus and the code remains the foundation on which I personally experiments and changes.
Today the group company sheds light on the intention to develop CM12.1 (based on Android 5.1), but inform us and generally for the ROM.
Google has spent the Android 5.1 before about three weeks, and up to this week staged renewed revision of Factory Images for Nexus with some more corrections and changes. All these changes are incorporated slowly to a new branch of the CM (staging / cm-12.1). The first "official" CM 12.1 Nightlies expected in about a week.
Positive official is that new devices, eg the Moto E (2014), Moto G (2014), gained official support from the CM, and do not rely on unofficial builds. Also positive is that even some devices that already had the official support of the CM, but were in Android 4.4-based CM11, acquired their first CM12 builds (eg Xperia L). Of course the average user might wait more firmly the first M-builds of CM12.1.
Kerasaki the cake that now most applications of CM have accepted facelift following the Guidelines of Material Design, but that usability has expanded to support both Android Wear wherever possible (eg CM Messaging app).
